Rev. David Atkins
Pastor
Pastor David never planned to become a pastor. He initially pursued a career in music, studying at the University of Oregon School of Music. However, through the encouragement of his parents to use all his gifts for God’s glory, he felt a deeper calling to ministry.

Pastor David attended seminary at the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA. While studying, he joined First United Methodist Church in Oakland, where he discovered a home in the United Methodist Church. Over the next few decades, he faithfully served churches in Oakland and Bakersfield before transitioning into a counseling ministry, earning a Master’s in Counseling from Cal State Bakersfield.

His love for music was manifested in the writing of two musicals and numerous songs for the church, and he continues to find joy in playing the piano at Saddleback Hospital and worship services.

When called to serve as interim pastor, he once again embraced the lesson his parents taught him long ago: “Use your gifts to the glory of God.”
Ashleigh Kelly

Ashleigh's expertise extends beyond administration, as she has also excelled in the field of communications and youth ministry in the Methodist Church for over 20 years. With a strong grasp of effective storytelling, she has played an integral role in conceptualizing and executing impactful campaigns for the church. Her ability to articulate our church's mission and values through compelling narratives will undoubtedly amplify our message within the digital realm.

When she is not serving in ministry you can find Ashleigh redecorating the house, playing with power tools, or eating sushi with her husband Steve and her 4 kids, Sadie, Chandler, Dermott, and Bray.

Michael Beu
Director of Technology, Media, & Communications
With a lifelong connection to the church, Michael has blended his passion for filmmaking and media production with ministry. As the son of two pastors—one in the United Church of Christ and the other in the United Methodist Church—he has extensive experience in both denominations. His journey in church media began in high school at the California Pacific Annual Conference Summer Film Camp, where mentors like Rev. Hilly Hicks nurtured his calling.

After earning a degree in Cinema and Television Arts from California State University Northridge, Michael used his skills to support churches in digital ministry, especially during the pandemic. He has since worked with multiple congregations, helping them enhance their worship and outreach through media.

Now serving at Laguna Country UMC—a church he has been connected with since 2016—Michael is excited to use his talents to support worship, engage the community, and help the church thrive in a digital age.
